Saranac Lake is a town of approximately 5,000 named after the three lakes near by: Lower Saranac, Middle Saranac and Upper Saranac. These lakes have very appealing homes and camps and host some of the original Adirondack Great Camps. The first TB sanatorium was in Saranac Lake, hence the sleeping porch on so many of the homes. One of the North Country Community College locations is in Saranac Lake. The town is known for it’s family friendly Winter Carnival with its ice palace. St Regis Canoe Area is in the back yard. There is no shortage of outdoor recreation opportunities in all four seasons.
